Basketweave Guilloché
A classic basketweave pattern is engraved on this Conway Stewart blank giving it the illusion of having interleaved and woven silver strands surrounding the barrels. Additional classic embellishment is engraved "in the round" at the ends of the basketweave pattern to terminate the pattern gracefully. A 45 year-old German straight line engine was used to engrave the basketweave pattern and a 96 year-old rose engine was used to engrave the terminating banding. The pen is beautiful shining solid sterling silver weighing in at around 86 grams. This is a prototype exploring the basketweave pattern and I may make one other variant on this theme.
